Star Fruit

The other day while grocery shopping I happen to notice that they had Star Fruit! I was so excited and I knew I couldn't pass it up even though it was like $4.00 for 1 fruit! I looked on line to figure out how to cut it and we had it for dinner.

The taste is somewhere between an apple and an apricot, but with a firm texture. We all loved it! Every time I ask if there is something particular we want to eat while making my menus Zach usually says Star Fruit!

Food

Do you ever play with your food? Seriously do you? Well let me tell you what we do to our food sometimes just to mix things up a bit.
Have you ever made a super hero guy out of Black beans and rice? Well this was a big hit at our house..

How about a Jello spider?

or a pita man?

A Watermelon Race car?

or a jack-o-lantern pizza?

Go ahead! Be daring and do crazy things with your food.. It just might end up to be the family favorite... Just remember to include your version of this...

(Scary Bakerman if your wondering)
Don't be afraid! Let your kids help and create some good memories!

April Fools Day

At our house we don't believe in doing mean pranks for April fools but we do like to have fun with our food. The Boys were lucky and I didn't do anything for breakfast that was weird. Now lunch on the other had was fun. I made chicken Nuggets and sweet and sour sauce. Labor intensive you think... nope because these were made from banana pieces covered in peanut butter and then rolled in graham cracker crumbs.. for Sam I did yogurt and cheerio crumbs instead with apricot jam to dip it in. Zach thought that was cool. He asked me what it was and I said chicken nuggets and he said.. "No mom there's banana in there!"

For dinner we had taco salad and cupcakes... Taco salad was broken sugar cones topped with chocolate ice cream, green colored coconut, whipped cream, and diced strawberries for salsa. The cupcakes were muffin meatloaf and mashed potato frosting. It was really yummy.

I was taking dinner to a family in our ward and took the same things. They liked it. For them I tinted the mashed potatoes blue but didn't have time to do the rest of the mashed potatoes so Zach had to try both of the different colors of mashed potatoes. He was a little disappointed that they tasted the same. :)

Homemaking 101

Does anyone else feel like it's time for a refresher course on homemaking 101? Maybe we should watch a few seasons of Leave it to Beave...
